Hi Syl!
If it was getting that hot, it sounds like the fans weren't working like they should. And by putting a towel under it, you were actually blocking the vent holes & making it worse without realizing it.... :-(
You can try unplugging the laptop, and removing the battery for about 5 minutes. Then replace the battery, plug it back in, and see if it goes. If not, you may have had it overheat & burn something out.
