In helping someone find out which files are using the most space (i.e. the largest files on their drive) and seeing many suggestions for this program or that program I realized that many did not know how to use Windows to do this for them or they have forgotten. So here's how.
You don't need software to tell what files are the largest. You can use Windows search function. Here's how.
Start> Search> For Files and Folders Select All Files and Folders In All or part of file name: box enter * (asterisk) (* is wildcard for all files and folders) In the Look In: box select Local Disk (C:) Click the down arrow next to What size is it? to display options Select Large (more than 1 MB) Click down arrow next to More advanced options Click the box to place a check mark next to Search system folders , Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders. These options will include all files on the drive. Press the Search button and let the search complete. In the search results pane scroll to the right to you see the Size column. Place the mouse pointer on the column name (Size) and click once. This will arrange files from lowest to highest by size. Click a second time and the arrangement will be from largest to smallest.
